Ok,This is my first tutorial. It's a conceptual tutorial and will take you through the steps of creating a rather simple replica of `arcipello 's Holding back the flood

It's completely free and downloadable in PDF format (click the Download button on the left). The file is 11 MB big so if you're having trouble downloading, you should right click on download -> "save target as" (or "save link as" in firefox).

The tutorial has been done in Photoshop CS3 but the procedure is appliable to prior versions such as CS2,7.0,6.0 and probably even 5.0 since I'm using only the very basic features in this tutorial

The picture replica itself took me about 1 and a half hour but compiling and writing the tutorial took me almost 5 hours ^^; ergo: writing tutorials is hard work....

If you find this useful, please support me and enable me to make more free tutorials by donating a one-time donation

well,BECAUSE it's a great exercise for artists.Doing something that is not bound to your usual style opens up your eyes to a new perspective of perceiving your artistic vision. As with doing portraits and still life,it's a common exercise for art students and amateurs alike to replicate fantasy works because they picture something that you can't really see in real life and analyze there.
When you get the hang of it,you can read a picture like a book, like a special sight that enables you to see how a picture was made and use the same techniques in your art.
It is sad that people associate replicating with plagiarism,it's a little paranoid if you ask me.I am an artist myself and I learned everything I know by analyzing other's work because art classes were kind of too expensive...and this method is kind of like free art classes and you even get to be the teacher yourself :D

Consumo dunque sono.
That's very true. In fact, it's a well-known fact that in the early days, (i.e pre-renaissance) Medieval monks were first taught how to draw by replicating the images of monks that had gone before them. And we all know how amazing the illuminated manuscripts of those days were! Thanks VERY much for this tutorial, I'm sure it's bound to help me. *Pounces on the download button*

Reflexivos. Profundos como los mares que encharcan cuan inmensa sea la nostalgia de un ayer perdido, que en temporada de flores añejas, se abre en un letárgico suspiro... Nostalgia, flor de otoño...

Is there anywhere else you have this for d/l? It's not working for me.

:ahoy:

I'm probably procrastinating right now.
right-click on download and click "save target as" (or "save link as" in firefox). If it still doesn't work I'll upload it somewhere.
