I know where my towel is.
First off, I like how this pic remains somewhat 'arty' instead of being so completely finished as to look like a photo. It's perfect for this subject matter and the feeling of surreality it all invokes.
The background. I love contrasting-color themes in art...you've done it masterfully here, as is to be expected. The flow of color is so pleasing, especially the way you haven't just stuck to one hue on each part of the pic...Itachi has amber and red both, for instance. And the transition looks like something with natural light rather than an abrupt color change. I also love how Itachi's amber-color and sparkles flow into Sasuke's part of the pic.
I love space art...I read Carl Sagan books over and over, partially for the space art. Though the moon and sun here are subtle details, they are beautiful. You've somehow captured the intensity of the sun (I can almost feel its heat) in the color, and the rays have a sort of stylized and natural look at once, which is awesome. I love the clouds, too- their color is perfect for stormclouds at sunset. And the sparkles...you do know how to use sparkles. It is Itachi, so there had to be sparkles.
I think the moon is my favorite, though, simply because I like Sasuke and cool colors best...the clouds there are a bit more stylized, but still really awesome. The stars, especially the ones that are 'twinkling' are a great addition...most people probably wouldn't think of that even though it is a night-sky scene. I also think the way some of the Chidori-sparkles could be mistaken for stars is a rather neat idea. I love the haziness and eclipsed look of the moon, and the halo especially.
I love the way you drew them...it really is reminescent of tradtional Japanese ukiyo-e portraying samurai, although you've modified it to your style and made it much more interesting.
His eyes and facial expression are my favorite...you've succeeded in making them both look considerably more Asian than usual in this pic, which is partially where my ukiyo-e remark came from. His eye-lines never look weird when you draw them, which is an unusual thing in itself.
The katana hilt is one of my favorite aspects of the pic...you're so good at drawing highlights and mixing warm colors especially, and this is another great example of it. Your fabrics are totally real-looking and touchable, just like always...I also really like the ribbon detail on Itachi's arm- it makes his side more harmonious with Sasuke's side.
Most of what I have to say about Sasuke can be said about Itachi and already has been...what I really love is the idea of putting him in a kimono, since we've never seen him in anything except shorts, more shorts, and uh...a hospital gown.
Chidori is one of my favorite jutsu despite how fallible it obviously is...I love the way you've done it, captured the fact that it's more like holding a ball of chakra than the usual stereotypical 'mage' hand-surrounded-by-energy thing people do. You've also remembered to have him holding his wrist with the other hand...DAMN your attention to detail just bowled me over again. And of course, the sparkles...this is by far one of my favorite interpretations of Chidori ever.
Do not ever doubt that you kick ass and can draw anything. Someone should give you omnipotent powers to create worlds by drawing...they would be beautiful and breathtaking beyond the capabilities of even my vivid imagination.
